On the 18th May 2007, at the Cliff Hotel, Gwbert on Sea I, with my wife Lyn, had the pleasure of hosting the 20th consecutive annual reunion of the 82nd Entry ex brat's. The celebrations were attended by 23 ex members of the 82nd and 21 of their ladies, this included first timers Dave Cox accompanied by his wife Deanne and John Donovan. The 44 of us sat down to an excellent gala dinner at 7.30pm and did not clear the function room until 1.00 am. By this time the bar takings had swollen considerably. Unfortunately John Hollingsworth, Les Eva, and Roly Hughes together with their wives had to cancel at the last minute on health grounds. Pleased to report nothing too serious.
The weather in the main was very kind to us and helped the weekend get off
to a good start on the Thursday when half of us arrived at the hotel and
were able to say our hello's on the veranda in brilliant sunshine. Views
from the hotel, situated as it is on the cliff top, provided a panoramic
vista of the river Teifi as it runs into Cardigan bay. Most, if not all those
attending thought the venue with its unparalleled views and splendid Spa and
Gym facilities unbeatable as a location for a very enjoyable few
days reminiscing. The brave amongst us, Mike Pond and wife Eileen took
advantage of the sunny weather and ventured into the outside swimming pool
before returning to the comfort and warmth of the internal spa pool. Friday
morning saw the only rain we had, just when 4 of our members ventured out onto
the Cardigan Golf course. Needless to say by the time they were half way round
they were soaking wet but the rain stopped and they were able to dry out by
the time they got onto the 18th green. To go with the many and various
prizes donated by those attending, the hotel donated 2 prizes for our raffle.
Kath Siddon enjoyed her massage as the first prize and Mike Pond and wife
Eileen won their Sunday lunch. The proceeds of the raffle raised £175 this
included an IOU of £20 for our Entry Fund.
At the Entry Meeting it was agreed that Sid Siddon and his wife Kath will
organise the reunion 2008 in Buxton Derbyshire. The location for the
celebration to commemorate 50years after graduation from RAF Halton is
under consideration. For updates on both these Reunions please keep an eye out
on the Entry web site.
