GREGORY KURCEWICZ

Lecturer in Spiritual Advice

Personal profile:

Gregory Kurcewicz is an artist who works in a variety of mediums, primarily painting, photography and film. He also works as a teacher and curator of artist's film and video. He has curated programmes in England and internationally. Recently he was co-curator of the internationally touring Shoot! Shoot! Shoot!, highlighting the work of the London Filmmaker's Co-op 1966-1976.

"There is an emphasis on production within art colleges, one which while trying to enable a student to produce objects, neglects a wider idea of motivation. The idea is always it seems that the "world of the artist" is a competitive one, where one competes with fellow artists, peers for comissions, space, etc.

This state of mind can lead to distress in a student and results in a kind of polarisation once they leave college. As lecturer in Spiritual Advice, I will take on a pastoral role - it will be of course subjective but impartial."
