Holt
is a busy historic town with many fine Georgian buildings on
the main street and courtyards tucked away. It is an excellent
tourist centre offering specialist shops, galleries and arts
and crafts.
It has a continental
atmosphere with tables outside bars and cafes.
The town is
also famous for Greshams, the public school, founded by Sir
John Gresham in 1555. The town has won 'Anglia in bloom' several
times, hence the excellent floral displays.
At
weekends when the North Norfolk Railway is running the a horse
drawn waggon known as the 'Holt Flier' will carry you to the
station at High Kelling where you can catch the train to Sheringham.
