Once
again we come to the beginning of a new
week and make our focus that of praising
God our creator
We welcome God into our lives today and
throughout this week very simply and
warmly. At this time of year the
weather encourages us to go for a walk
or a ramble. Maybe this week we could
do this or if we are unable to, we could
stroll imaginatively. God’s activity is
in evidence everywhere we go. By going
into our neighbourhood we can see things
through ‘new’ eyes, or, imaginatively,
through a piece of music, a poster,
picture or set of photographs
What do we mean by looking for signs
of God’s activity? Here is an
answer from the 13th century
saint,
Bonaventure, who wrote a book called ‘The Mind’s Journey into God.’ |
|
Whoever is not enlightened by the
splendour of creation
is blind;
Whoever is not awakened by
the clamour of creation
is deaf;
Whoever does not praise God
because of his effects
is dumb;
Whoever does not discover
the first principle from such clear
signs is a fool.
Therefore, open your eyes,
alert the eyes of your spirit,
open your lips
And apply your heart so that
in all creatures you may see,
hear, praise, love,
worship, glorify and honour
your God, lest perhaps the
whole world rise against you. |

And so may we
honour our God in song:
How
great is our God, how great is his
name! How great is our God, for ever
the same!
He
rolled back the waters of the mighty Red
Sea. And he said: “I’ll never leave
you. Put your trust in me.”
How great is our God, how great is his
name! How great is our God, for ever
the same!
He sent his Son, Jesus, to set us
all free. And he said: “I’ll never
leave you. Put your trust in me.”
How great is our God, how great is his
name! How great is our God, for ever
the same!
He gave us his Spirit, and now we
can see. And he said: “I’ll never
leave you. Put your trust in me.”
How great is our God, how great is his
name! How great is our God, for ever
the same! |

Friday:
Father, when we gaze at the heavens which your fingers have
formed, and look at the moon and the stars which you have
set there, we realize how small we are in the majesty of
your creation. Yet you treasure us above all that you have
made, and you give us control over all the works of your
hand – animals both wild and tame, birds in the air, and the
creatures of the sea. Father we praise your majesty.
We make this prayer
through |Christ Our Lord. Amen |
