Orton Hall is a extensive Jacobean mansion house  which stands in 6 acres of private grounds ,which is mainly laid to lawn with mature trees and schrubs.

It dates back to 1662 and is grade II listed as being of architectual importance.

It is situated on the southern edge of the small Cumbrian village of Orton and was described by Alfred Wainwright in his book "westmorlands Heritage".

"Orton Is one of the loveliest of Westmorlands villages, a delightful rural settlement built around a central green with two streams crossed by many footbridges and having numerous venerable buildings and a fine church on a hill overlooking tranquil countryside."

With Lakeland so close and the Yorkshire Dales just South, it is an ideal place to stay,if you wish to visit the Lakes and want something a little bit special.

The whole area is a walkers paradise and provides a superb base for exploring the many interesting villages and attractions of eastern Lakeland, the North Pennines,Yorkshire dales or walking in the Howgill fells.

The quiet roads make driving a pleasure, so the journey is part of a days outing.
