September

A wonderful month with day after day of glorious weather. Almost getting too dry by the end of the month, so we had to resort to the Irrigator to keep the Carrots growing. Harvest of Wheat, Beans and Potatoes completed successfully with good crops all round.

A good crop of Organic wheat

Broccoli and Leeks still going off every week and Sweetcorn meeting a heavy demand.

Harvesting Broccoli

Cows beginning to have trouble finding enough grass to eat, so silage feeding has had to start. Missed the trip to Scotland this year but have been out with the gun a few times after grouse or duck. Butch and Bracken have certainly been very pleased about that!

Our hunt (The Radnor and West Hereford) sent 9 coach loads of people to The Countryside March as well as numerous others by car. We left a skeleton staff at home to do the milking etc as well as someone in the house, and set off for London at about 6am. Little did we know that we were not going to return until 3am the next day! It was a very long and exhausting day, but a terrific experience just being with a mass of like-minded Country people. I feel things will get very ugly if the government does not listen to such an upsurge of feeling from so many of us.

The Radnors are a small drop in a very big river!

What a pleasure it was, a few days later, to see so many people out Cubbing here.
One of the other social events at this time of year is the Ploughing Match. This year held on our neighbours farm, a stunning sight and another part of the country scene.

Ploughing, doing a tidy job.
