March 2002

The year marches on, still warmer and dryer than ever, a really nice spring.
Bab`s Herefords are calving again, a much more even balance of bull and heifer calves this year.

All the cattle are out day and night, a great relief to all, thankfully with plenty of grass to eat. In spite of not spreading fertilizer for several years now, the grass seems to be just as early as any one else's and it also seems to produce as much as it did before, a sure sign that we are getting something right.
We have run the weeder through the Wheat and Bean crops which seems to have done both a lot of good. We had some Slug and Flood damage in one field of Wheat, together with some Rook damage in the Beans so we patched up with Spring Beans( about 5 acres in all). I think that has attracted every Wood pigeon in the County, but we have managed to keep them of so far.

I managed to get the fishing rod out again and had 3 days using it on the River Tay in Scotland. A wonderful river, wildlife, people and Scotch!! Some success, well worth the trip
