Founded in 1780 by James Turner, the herd was moved to The Leen by his grandson Philip who sold 'Grove 3rd' to the USA for the highest price for a Hereford at that time. He proved to be a great sire as was 'Statesman', bred by Mr A P Turner. Research shows that 96% of the Hereford bulls sold in 1957 could be traced back to him.

Mr W Smith purchased the farm and herd in 1918, passing it on to Frank Smith in 1945, both continuing the success of the herd. Over the years cattle have been exported to the USA, Canada, Australia, South America and Sweden. Franks daughter, Babs (Norman) manages the herd today with grandson Chris taking a great interest.
