Social
events also play an important part in KODS, as we are a
fun loving bunch!
Various events and activities are organised by the KODS
committee with help from members and in conjunction with Carpet Trades
Operatic Society.
The social year starts in September, with our annual
after-play dinner. This is usually an informal meal at a local hostelry.
From October to December, we hold events such as
quizzes, beetle drives, skittles evenings, bonfire parties. We have also
been known to have weekends away at the seaside- Blackpool in November
is extrememly bracing!
Christmas time is always celebratated within the
Society. The last rehearsal before Christmas is always curtailed to
allow for the consumption of sausage rolls, mince pies etc all made or
provided for by our Patron. A Christmas party has become a regular event
with "The Presidents Game" being the highlight.
The Annual musical (the end of February/beginning of
March) allows us to indulge in balti nights and after show parties -
burning the candle at both ends whilst trying to work at the day job at
the same time!
The more formal Annual Dinner is normally held a couple
of weeks later, after a reasonable period of recovery..
In the summer (when we have one) we have held
barbeques, progressive days and this year a River boat Shuffle was
organised.
Most of our social events do seem to involve food and
drink, but in the past we have also organised 24 hour sponsored sings in
aid of Leukaemia Research, treasure hunts / car rallies and theatre
trips.
We are always looking for new ideas, so if anyone
wishing to join the society has organised anything different from the
above, we would love to hear from you so that we can give it a try!
