Theme:      Working (for God)

Thought:    I give my hands to do your work.

On the 27th March in 1898 the first international radio message was transmitted.
It was sent by Guglielmo Marchese Marconi across the English Channel – from France to England.
The message was to ‘The Times’ newspaper from a correspondent in northern France.
This is the message that was broadcast:

“Communication between England and the Continent was set up yesterday morning
by the Marconi system of wireless telegraphy…..Signor Marconi is here conducting
the trials and is very satisfied with the results.”

Marconi was born in Italy in 1874, and died in 1937.  He had devoted most of his life to working on communications.

Many people devote their lives to working for certain causes or to fulfill a dream.  As Christians we are all called to devote our work to God.  Indeed we carry out God’s work on earth.

St. Teresa of Avila, in Spain once wrote:

“Christ has no body on earth now but ours:
no hands but ours, no feet but ours.

Ours are the eyesthrough which Christ’s
compassion is to look upon the world.

Ours are the feet with which he is to
go about doing good.

Ours are the hands with which he is to bless others now.

Readings:  Exodus 20:1-17; Psalm 18; 1 Corinthians 1:22-25; John 2:13-25.

Prayers

Lord Jesus, I give you my hands – to do your work.  I give you my feet – to go your way.

I give you my eyes – to see as you do.  I give you my tongue – to speak your words.

I give you my mind – that you may think in me.  I give you my spirit – that you may pray in me.

Above all, I give you my heart that you may love, in me,
your Father and all humankind.

I give you my whole self that you may grow in me, so that it is you, Lord Jesus,

who live and work and pray in me.  Amen.
(Grail Prayer)

Father, We offer to you today all our thoughts, words and deeds.  Amen.
