Gail Simmons

After completing a Masters degree in Medieval Studies, Gail pursued a varied career which included living in a Cumbrian castle, listing historic buildings for English Heritage and leading walking trips in Europe and the Middle East before giving in to her nomadic instincts to become a full-time travel writer.

Gail loves the desert, mountains and sea in equal measure and enjoys writing about independent and ethical travel. She is a contributor to several UK national newspapers and magazines including the Observer, Telegraph, Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Independent, Resurgence magazine and BA High Life.

In recent years she has become a specialist in the Middle East region, where she has travelled widely.
