ABOUT US

Formed in 1954 as an offshoot of the Liverpool Group, we have grown to become one of the largest of the 500+ Groups of the Ramblers’ Association with a current membership of over 1000.

Although our main activities are centred on our walking programme, where we attempt to cater for as wide a range of ability as possible, we also have an active and varied Social Programme.

Meetings are held every Thursday evening at The Roundel Club, Alton House, 17 Shrewsbury Road, (corner of Alton Road), Oxton, Birkenhead from 8.00pm.

The Wirral is ideally situated for easy access to some of the finest walking in the country and our location enables us to provide one of the most varied walks programmes in the country covering such areas as Mid Wales and the Borders, Snowdonia and North Wales, Shropshire, Staffordshire, The Peak District, Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cumbria and the Lake District on our weekly Sunday excursions.

The Group actively supports and promotes the aims of the Ramblers' Association.

The Ramblers' Association is Britain's biggest organisation working for walkers. It is a registered charity and has about 140,000 members across England, Scotland and Wales.

The Ramblers' Association exists to facilitate, for the benefit of everyone, the enjoyment and discovery that walking outdoors can bring; and to promote respect for the life of the countryside. The Association encourages walking; protects rights of way; defends the beauty of the countryside; and campaigned for many years, with eventual success, for the freedom to roam over uncultivated, open country. The association is a democratic, voluntary organisation, registered as a charity (no.1093577).
