The Lancashire and Cheshire Antiquarian Society was founded in 1883 to actively  promote the study of the history of Lancashire and Cheshire. Its sphere includes archaeology (both traditional and industrial), social history, trade and trades, architecture and the arts, the history of institutions and local government, and the customs and traditions of the two counties. Its range extends from antiquity to the  twentieth century. Although the Society is based upon Manchester, its studies and activities embrace the region. Membership is open to all individuals and Societies who are interested in the various historical aspects of the two counties Palatine.
