Braintree has the same side as the previous game. The FA web site said that
Dwayne Plummer is banned to 30th September.
The first half was a hard fought flowing game despite a whistle happy refer=
ee.
The shape of the side was working well again all the way through the side f=
rom
front to back. Braintree were handed their opportunity to go in front when =
we
were awarded a penalty for no clear reason from my perspective or it appear=
ed
from both sets of players either. Mark Jones took the penalty which he slot=
ted
to the left & Yeading keeper Delroy
Preddie did well to save. The Iron secured a nu=
mber
of corners throughout the half & it was from one of those corners (35 <=
span
class=3DSpellE>mins) that Rob Martin crossed for Billy Burgess from =
a well
timed run to power a header into the back of the net. Although Braintree we=
re
mounting more of the attacks than Yeading with =
Riddle
again forcing the issue with their defence at every chance he had, Yeading still looked dangerous at times with some good
passing & the no.10 Marvin Morgan looking especially good & his best
chance came on 23 minutes when his shot flashed across the face of the goal=
. On
45 minutes Braintree
secured a second goal when Andy Porter cracked a shot from outside the area
that gave the keeper no chance.
The second half saw less flowing football and more of a battle that was nev=
er
the less still exciting.
Braintree
nearly secured a third goal on 47 minutes when a Rob Martin's free kick str=
uck
the bar. On 56 minutes Yeading were awarded a p=
enalty
& like Braintree's
in the first half, for no obvious reason. They did put theirs away with Nevin Saroya doing the ho=
nours.
This half was also punctuated by a number of injuries to James Hawes, Brad
Quinton & Russ Edwards as Yeading fought to=
get
back into the game. Braintree<=
/st1:place>
continued to gain the odd corner from time to time. Riddle was for ever on =
the
go, either running at players or holding off the defence. The mid field were
battling forward & back with Porter & Quinton in the centre & H=
awes
on the left & the excellent Martin on the right. The defence were holdi=
ng
tight despite Yeading desperation to get back i=
nto
the game. The injury time of 13 minutes seemed well out of proportion to the
actual time taken but this gave Braintree another chance when a good run by
Martin down the left saw his shot parried by the keeper only for Riddle to =
be
there for the follow up to smash the ball into the net & seal the victo=
ry.
The Yeading no. 10 Morgan also had a chance bef=
ore
the final whistle but keeper Nick Morgan saved well.
Result 3-1
An excellent result for Braintree as Yeadi=
ng
made them work so hard for everything they got. The six points now from 4 g=
ames
put us up to 11th in the table. The only slight disappointment were three s=
illy
yellow cards gained for winding the referee up- Steve Hughes for throwing t=
he
ball away, Robbie Martin for keeping hold of the ball & Louis Riddle fo=
r
My men of the match - so hard to choose by I must go for Martin & Riddl=
