and cinema complex very adjacent.

A 9 hole golf course is also adjacent and should be open. A links course is less than a mile away .

There are miles of level cycle paths .

We are exploring the possibility of an evening meal at a local sailing club.

FEES: £6.50 per unit per night
Bookings:
by 1st March  with SAE to Derek and Norma Stephens
(contact details in Diary of Events )

Southport Rally

This was my first visit to Southport and I have to say that I found it to be a charming unspoilt town with a wide range of shops, historic arcades and well kept gardens. Derek and Norma had found a camping area alongside the lake close to the main shopping area.

Members were able to meet up on a number of occasions including a session at the bowling alley, a meal and disco at the local sailing club and an invitation to help Derek and Norma in celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary.

Thank you Derek and Norma for introducing us to this interesting area and for a well organised rally.

The Independent must have been following our lead as their edition on Sunday  April 27th had a two page spread extolling the virtues of Southport and reporting on all the recent investment in the town.

Ravenglass Rally                    Fully Booked

Location: Ravenglass Camping and Caravanning Club, Ravenglass, Cumbria,  CA18 1SR

ARRIVE: Sunday 13th April 2008
DEPART:  Sunday 20th April 2008
Associate Members Welcome

The Club Site at Ravenglass was once part of the Muncaster Estate.

Set in six acres of mature woodland, it lies on the outskirts of the pretty fishing village which shares its name, in the Lake District National Park.

The area is a walker’s paradise on Cumbria’s western coast.

The seafront is 500 yards from the camp site – with opportunities for fishing.

The village of Ravenglass has a craft shop, pubs and a lovely natural harbour.

The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway – La’al Ratty – is a narrow gauge railway running up to 16 trains a day.

If there is sufficient interest a full day coach tour may be organised

FEES: £13.25 per unit per night (including electric)
A reduced  £8.00
rate will apply to single members holding a valid Camping and Caravanning Club card.

Bookings:
by 16th March with A4 or DL SAE to
Rally Organiser - Rita Blundell. (contact details in Diary of Events )

When booking please state both the length of your van and your car if you intend to bring it.
This will assist ourselves and the site manager in selecting a suitable pitch.

Ravenglass Rally

I will admit that I had some reservations at the idea of a  rally in April in the Lake District but we need not have worried as we were  blessed with some excellent weather throughout the week. Rita and David had arranged a packed programme which included two outings by coach and a trip to Sellafield by Train. A number of members took advantage of the fine weather to travel on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway to Dalegarth and then took to the hills for a hike.

Social events included a meal and a quiz in the Village hall.

Congratulations to Rita and David on organising such an interesting and varied rally programme.

Interestingly on my return I opened my copy of the Camping and Caravanning Magazine only to find an article featuring Craig and the Ravenglass Campsite.

Rally Update March 2008

News to date is that rallies are still as per Diary of Events with an added Rally now to be held at Hatton from the 5th – 9th June.  Full details will be in the next Newsletter.

The AGM Dinner/Dance is booking steadily however as this is the 21st Anniversary  of the Association  I must admit to being a little disappointed that I have not received bookings from some of our members, that have been in the club for many years, to come along to celebrate this very special event.  I was hoping that with the very attractive package of 2/3/4 nights camping, a welcome party on the Friday, and a sherry reception, dinner/dance with wine and a live band on Saturday, would have also have attracted some of our members that we perhaps only see at a Show or never at all.  I am not sure what else I can do to tempt out our “dormant membership”! Please give me a ring or send an email if you have any ideas or thoughts, I am open to suggestions – well most!

I have now confirmed the coach tour on the Tarka Rally and this will be Barnstaple, Dunsford for coffee, Exford, Minehead for lunch, Porlock, Countisbury, Lynmouth/Lynton for tea and back to Barnstaple. We know the route and the scenery is stunning (providing its not in mist Circa Haytor 2005!!) We may also arrange a half day tour to Atlantic Village (huge shopping outlet) and Westward Ho! if enough interest.

Rally Update January 2008

All rallies will run as scheduled.

We have been to Barnstaple to check out the Rugby Club Site and it is excellent. Very good function Room, Bar and Catering which we can have use of when we wish. The site is adjacent to the River Taw and the Tarka Trail which is a level paved 5 min walk into Barnstaple. Lots of interesting shops and a very good pannier market in Barnstaple. Buses (don't forget your bus passes!) to all the local beaches and towns all very easily accessible.

The AGM Rally is already very well booked if you do wish to have electric hook'up then best to get your booking in soon! Phil and Pauline are also well booked for Thursford Show should you be thinking of going.

With the 2008 Rally Season now in place my thoughts already are on 2009! So if anyone has any ideas please get in touch.

ps had a good time at Shepton and Devizes despite the poor weather. Managed to get in some walks with a stop at the pub for lunch at Devizes. 10 Vans at Devizes
