The medieval town of Cajarc is less
than 2 miles from La Loutre.
Cajarc is the birthplace of Françoise Sagan, author of books such
as Bonjour Tristesse, and is also known as where former President Pompidou built
his retirement home.
There are boulangeries, an Ecomarché supermarket and other
shops. There is a great market on Saturdays and on alternate Wednesdays.
The town has several restaurants, so you can enjoy a meal in one of the
town squares, or near the river.
There's an outdoor swimming pool and a Plan d'Eau by the bridge over
the River Lot.
This is where the boat trips up the river depart from.
Cajarc is known nationally for the Centre d'Art Contemporain Georges
Pompidou, where several
exhibitions are held each year.
In July the Africajarc festival is held, celebrating links with Africa, and providing a European stage for musicians
and artists from all over the continent.
Further afield, there is a large Leclerc hypermarché at Capdenac
Gare, and Figeac and Cahors are well served with shops.
