La Loutre

La Loutre is a recently restored old stone house, on the edge of the hillside village of Gaillac. It overlooks a meander of the river Lot, with beautiful views on three sides. Loutre is French for otter, and we chose this name to reflect the abundance of wildlife in the area. Otters have indeed been spotted in the Lot, and there are fish both large and small, as well as many birds, butterflies and lizards. |

Gaillac is within the commune of the historic town of Cajarc, not to be confused with the wine growing region of Gaillac in the neighbouring Département of Tarn. Cajarc is situated in the Parc Naturel Regional des Causses du Quercy, part of the Département of Lot, once the ancient province of Quercy. Saffron and walnuts are grown in the region, but the most famous products are Rocamadour cheese and Vin de Cahors. |
