Christian Aid Week 2008

11th - 17th May

Last year the total raised by Woodside Parish Church was £2,868.13. Most of this was raised by 23 volunteers going from House to House in just 27 streets. However, we also had a generous donation from the Guild and other envelopes handed in at the church.

Some people who pay Income Tax, filled in the Gift Aid form on the envelope, which enabled Christian Aid to reclaim almost 30% EXTRA. The total including reclaimed Tax became £3,131.45. It really is worth filling in the form. This applies to all gift aid donations of £2 and over.

Last year in the UK as a whole an Extra Million was raised for the work of Christian Aid, via reclaimed Income Tax.

We never cease to be amazed at the generosity of people at this annual event. We are just one church in the UK which takes part. Christian Aid is supported by most of the major Christian churches. ...learn more

Where does all the money go?

Christian Aid works with dozens of local Partners throughout the world, providing much needed cash grants to fund locally devised projects. These projects all seek to improve the lives of ordinary people who struggle to exist for a variety of reasons. The recent slogan of Christian Aid has been - WE BELIEVE IN LIFE - BEFORE DEATH !

Should Money raised be spent on Political Campaigns?

Christian Aid believes we all have a role to play in ending the scandal of mass poverty. Our actions have delivered real benefits to the world's poor on issues like debt and fair trade. Current main campaign is the Stop Poverty Campaign. Half of the world's population are living in poverty and the gap between rich and poor is widening. The global trading system lies at the heart of this inequality
