Other Treatments - Body Massage

The word massage is generally considered to be derived from the Arabic word "mass" or "Mas’h’", meaning to press softly.
Swedish massage is defined as "the manipulation of soft tissue for therapeutic purposes" .
Swedish massage will consist of a body or back massage, using the classic massage movements. The massage is designed to promote the circulation of fluids through the tissues of the body and encourage the elimination of waste products which can accumulate in those tissues. Areas of the body which are shown to require special attention can be concentrated upon (e.g. stress points in the back, neck and shoulders). A carrier oil, almond or grapeseed, is used in the treatment.
Swedish massage can be relaxing or invigorating, depending on the requirements, and can be used prior to exercise to ‘warm’ the muscles, post-exercise to reduce aches and pains which can occur as a result of the exercise, or for purely relaxation purposes.

Other Treatments - Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is an holistic treatment during which the body is treated as a whole, using natural plant extract oils. These oils are selected, according to their properties, for the conditions being treated.
Essential oils in Aromatherapy can be used in a number of ways - for example, in a bath in the prescribed quantities, in a burner, or as a massage. When the oils are used as a massage they are diluted in a suitable base oil and applied to the body; the oils are then absorbed into the bloodstream through the skin and travel to the body part for which they are intended.
Aromatherapy massage is generally relaxing and contains none of the percussive movements associated with Swedish Massage.
