Nine shooting
styles exist within the National Field Archery Society (NFAS) and it
should be noted that the following is only a very brief description
of these styles and reference to the NFAS Constitution and rules should
be made.
UNLIMITED
A hand-bow
of any type, draw-weight, with the addition of any number of aids.
FREESTYLE
A hand-bow
but not a compound, any draw-weight with the addition of any number
of aids.
BARE-BOW
A hand-bow
but not a compound, free from sights and similar aids, a long rod may
be used.
BOW HUNTER
A hand-bow
including a compound, free from sights and similar aids, a long-rod
may be used.
HUNTING-TACKLE
A hand-bow
but not a compound, free from sights and similar aids, and only wooden
arrows may be used
AMERICAN FLAT BOW
The bow must
be of one piece, straight-limbed of rectangular cross section. No sights
or any other aids, Only wooden arrows may be used.
LONGBOW
The bow must
be of wood, straight limbed and of a "D" section. No sights
or other aids and only wooden arrows may be used.
COMPOUND LIMITED
A hand bow
including a compound with a fixed up to five pin hunting sight with
a peep or kisser may be used.
CROSSBOW
A restriction
in maximum draw weight and length exist, basic sights may be used. Bolts
can be of any material and of a minimum length. (some clubs / landowners
may not allow crossbows)
