The Lancashire League

As the name implies ten archery clubs in the Lancashire area will each arrange a course of twenty targets, which is shot twice on the day.

Shooting Styles

There are three shooting styles, Wooden Arrows, Metal Arrows, and Sighted.

Scoring

Each archer's best three scores from the first five courses shot are added to the best three scores of the latter five. The archer with the highest score is declared the winner. To provide for archers of differing ability, age, and gender, each style is further broken down into divisions, with winners declared from each division.


Open Shoots

A club arranges a course of a type and targets of its choosing. E.g. Big Game, 3D, 2D, Forester, Bushman rounds etc. Targets can be animal pictures, 3D or hand made etc. Scoring and the positioning of shooting pegs can also vary from one shoot to another. The club usually declares the date and type of shoot in the NFAS newsletter.


The NFAS National Championships

This is usually held annually in September, the venue moves around the country, e.g. from the south, to the north, then to the midlands etc.
Four courses are laid out for the two days of shooting, i.e. "A" and "B", "X" and "Y", "A" and "B" are shot by archers using wood arrows i.e. Longbow, American flatbow, and Hunting Tackle, while "X" and "y"courses are shot by Bow Hunter, Bare Bow, Compound Limited, Unlimited, Freestyle and Cross- Bow. Archers within those groups shoot both courses. Medals and trophies are awarded the trophy are kept until the following year. Targets are Big Game faces.


Scottish Championships (SNFAS)

This is usually held annually around Easter and has for a number of years been held near Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway with a short interval held at Kelso, in the Borders. There are two courses set with all archers shooting both, over two days. Targets are usually Big Game faces, Medals being awarded within each style.


3D Championships

This is held annually with dates fixed that year. Two courses are set, and 3D "McKenzie" type used throughout. All archers shoot both courses over two days. Medals are awarded for all shooting styles.


Manx Championships (Isle of Man)

Up to date this shoot has only taken place once in May, Two courses had been laid one as a Big Game round with the other being 3D. All archers shoot both courses over two days, Trophies and medals being awarded for all Styles.


Devon Challenge

As its name implies it is held in and around the Devon area, Four clubs combine to provide courses for a full week of shooting, the Wednesday is a rest day, to visit placesof interest, or to make new arrows. Each venue has its own two day competition and those scores carried forward each day to automatically enter you for the overall winner awards for each style given at the end of the week at the final venue. So you can win at each Of the four venues and also the overall champion in your shooting style. Targets and scoring can vary considerably over the eight days.


Other Shoots

A number of clubs put on additional Two Day events which are posted within the NFAS newsletter, some of which have become an annual event not to missed by many. Target type and scoring covers the whole spectrum of Field Archery.
