Welcome to the Papua New Guinea High Commission in London web site. We hope you find the information provided useful. Papua New Guinea and the United Kingdom have historical and political links dating back to 1884 and, since PNG's Independence on 16th September 1975, the two governments have had strong and cordial diplomatic relations. PNG is part of the Commonwealth, with Queen Elizabeth II as the Head of State. Technical assistance and cultural and scholarly links between the two countries receive high priority and there is also a strong trade relationship between PNG and the UK.
