Hartford U13’s v Alvanley Under 13’s (ECB Spirit of Cricket Cup) 24th April 2008
The first game of the season was at a soggy Hartford ground following recent heavy rain.
With so many players from last season moving up to the 15’s, Alvanley had 9 players competing in their first ever game of ‘proper cricket’.
Captain for the game was Mike Roberts who lost the toss and was asked to bat.
No one managed to get into double figures in a disappointing total of 49-8 off 20 overs, with the extras being top scorer with 27!
Hartford reached their target in 8 overs for the loss of one wicket, with that going to Jared Swart, (1-23) with the other bowling from Chris Sadler (0-9), Sam Rose (0-8) and Mike Roberts (0-10).

Barrow Under 13’s v. Alvanley Under 13’s 11th May 2008
A warm sunny day gave the 13’s their first ‘League’ game of the season.
Captain for the game was Ben Tonge and he was asked to bowl first.
Barrow set a target of 83 all out in 24 overs. All bowlers bowled well, with the pick of Mike Roberts 3-9, George Rose 3-26, with one each for Liam Dutton, Jared Swart and Jake Smith. Jack Haimes bowled 2 overs with 2 maidens. Too many wides were bowled and better bowling lines have to be worked on at practice night.
In reply, Alvanley struggled against good accurate bowling with no one making an impression, until Mike Roberts and Jack Haimes took the side nearer the host’s total. Also the help of a massive six from Tom Roberts, Alvanley finished just short on 76-9, losing by 7 runs.
Alvanley Under 13’s v. Lymm OP Under 13’s 18th May 2008 The first home games of the season and a great start to the morning with ‘bacon butties’ kindly prepared by Diane Tonge and enjoyed by all, players and parents alike.
On the game itself and for the second successive week the players made all of the opposition bat and only the two openers B Phillips with 31 not out and L Ramsbottom with 18 offered and threat to the lively Alvanley bowlers and assisted with two good catches by Patrick (Buckets) Stradling, the visitors finished on 111-9. The wickets shared between 7 bowlers.
In reply Mike Roberts, (17) Adam Young (11) and Captain Nathan Brown (10) got to double figures but too often wickets were given away with silly shots going in the air to the close fielders. Alvanley were all out for 84 losing the game by 27 runs.
More players need to get themselves in and contribute more runs to the team.
A point to note was the excellent way that Nathan captained the team with a great maturity. Well Done Nathan. |
