27 Jan 2008 . . . from JP . . . Results . . . What a Glorious Day! After weeks, months it seems, of facing howling winds and pouring rain the Gods shone upon us and provided the most spectacular of days for our annual Cross Country Championship on Pinn Barton Farm with its spectacular views and lung crunching course.

Run in conjunction with South West Vets AC it produced a varied field ranging from young Hope Hamilton who at 9 years of age made light of her one lap event whilst a couple of 75 year olds had to work a bit harder. It did not lack for quality however with the main race won by Gary Gerrard nearly two minutes ahead of the runner up. Others were just content to run for the sheer pleasure of taking part.

Gary incidentally is a Royal Marine and a current World Champion Triathlete in the Men 40-44 age group. Malcolm Bayer, on a hot streak at the moment, finished 3rd Overall but had eased ahead of Andrew Seddon to take home the Sidmouth Championship Shield. Debbie Marriott retained her Ladies Title closely followed by Tess Stone but daughter Ellie celebrated her selection for the Devon Schools Cross County team by scorching round in double quick time to beat not only the other girls but all the boys as well in the Under 13 group.

In the Under 15s though, we had an impressive performance from Sam Baker making his first appearance in a Sidmouth vest. His twin boetie, Ashley, twisted a knee on the first lap but together they will undoubtedly be a great asset to the Club in the coming Track and Field season. All in all a very enjoyable day and it was satisfying to see our own David Bedford put Harry Moore, the Axe Valley legend, in his place and to welcome new members Christine and Arthur Vince who live in Yeovil but have chosen us as their home Club.
