The Club was the brain child of Malcolm Bayer, who moved to Sidmouth from
Oxfordshire where he was an active member of Headington Road Runners, Oxford.
The initial group of runners gathered at the local Leisure Centre on Monday 13
January 2003. Under the guidance of a steering committee things happened quickly
and by 1 April 2003 the Club was affiliated to UK Athletics and operating from
the prestigious Sailing Club premises on the Esplanade, Sidmouth.
The
Club meets every Wednesday evening at 7 pm for a training run / session suitable
for runners of all abilities. More serious training is undertaken on Monday
evenings, frequently starting at the Mutters Moor Car Park at the top of Peak
Hill. Visitors are always welcome and further information can be obtained from
Malcolm on 01404 812186 or John Keast on 01395 516605. The weekends usually
involve races on the Sunday or a longer Club run on Saturday mornings.
The Club caters for all running disciplines and its membership has
continued to rise throughout the year. Annual subscriptions covering the Club’s
financial year to 31 March are £18 for Senior members and £8 for Juniors. Family
membership is also available for £30.
Social activities are also an
important element of Club life so why not come along and meet us. We look
forward to seeing you.
