About Alison Marsden BA MAR MSTAT

Alison Marsden is a fully qualified Alexander Technique Teacher and specialises in pregnancy and childbirth. She is currently training to be a Doula and has applied the technique to the pregnancy & birth of her own son. She uses it in her daily life as a mother to help prevent the build up of excessive tension, avoid back pain and provide an environment for her and her children to grow and live more easily and creatively.

About the Alexander Technique www.stat.org.uk

The Alexander Technique goes right to the heart of how we use ourselves and explores ways to move and interact that are sustainable in today's highly stimulating lifestyle.

There are many disorders that have their causes in the way we use ourselves (that is our mind and muscles). Evidence shows that people have benefited from various conditions including asthma, migraine, backache and RSI.

The technique has also helped many people during labour - both as a natural pain relief and also to provide the best environment for babies to be born.

About Doulas www.doula.org.uk

A doula is a woman experienced in childbirth, working independently, who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother or couple, before during and just after childbirth. She complements and supports the work of medical professionals, either in the hospital or alongside the midwife in the home environment for home births.

Doula UK is the network of Doulas. They set guidelines for their members with philosophy, code of practice and maintain a positive relationship with all healthcare professionals.
