Bourne Singers is a choir of around 20-25 members (SATB) which aims at a high standard of performance. The range of music performed is typical of a chamber choir: from smaller sacred works to folk and part songs and madrigals. This allows scope for both orchestral accompaniment and also a cappella (unaccompanied) singing. We are members of Making Music.
Many talented instrumentalists, often young people embarking on musical careers, have been afforded a platform as soloists at the Bourne Singers’ concerts. Our conductor, Nick Hughes ensures that we enjoy a varied and challenging repertoire.
We perform 4 concerts a year, usually in Coulsdon at St John’s Church. These take place in the Spring, Summer and Autumn, followed by an annual carol concert (click Concert Programme). Occasionally we are invited to sing at other venues, and we always receive a warm welcome at St Mary’s Church, Farleigh, Surrey in the summer.
There we perform a short concert of anthems and motets preceding the beautiful service of Compline. Afterwards we sing songs and madrigals outside.
