Who we are
We
are simply a group of people who enjoy playing folk music
together. Within the group, there is a wide range of ability from
music teachers to very amateur p[ayers. We play a variety of
instruments - accordions, fiddles, guitars, keyboards, whistles,
mandolins, bass - you're welcome to bring along any instrument.
We meet once a month in room 200 in the Maxwell building of
Salford
University. This is usually on the first Friday of each month, from 8pm
to about 10 pm though the Friday can vary to avoid bank holiday
weekends and for other reasons.
We aim to play a variety of music and we have a leader for each session
to guide us through the music they have chosen, so you should either be
able to read a little, or be able to pick things up quickly by ear.
However, we don't play anything very complicated and we take the
tunes through carefully until everyone is comfortable with them, so you
don't need to be an expert session player - that's not our style!
We take a break part way through the evening. Unfortunately, there
are no facilities for getting drinks and snacks, so we each bring
something of our own to stop us getting too dry by the end of the
evening.
