The Farm

Moat Farm is situated around the villages of Torworth and Barnby Moor in North Nottinghamshire, it is owned and managed by
the Helliwell family who have been farming at Moat Farm since 1922 and previously in Yorkshire for many generations.
The farm is arable and we grow a broad range of crops on our light sandy soils which we have the facility to irrigate,
we also graze between 500-1000 sheep on our land over winter each year which aids our soils natural fertility.

We are as environmentally conscious in our farming as possible and although we are not fully organic
all of our land is managed using the environmentally friendly 'Integrated Farm Management' approach,
this method opposes using any treatments and chemicals on our crops that are not vital to eliminate pests and disease,
hence this maximises benefits to the environment whilst producing the highest quality crops.
We are mindful of public health at all times and always apply common sense principles to our farming methods,
including supporting the reduction of 'food miles'.

As a result of this, our closely monitored crop production, storage and environmental practices have earned us:

  Grade 1 'Assured Combinable Crops Scheme' certification
  Grade 1 'British Farm Standard' (Red Tractor Logo) certification
  All the fresh produce grown on the farm complies with the 'Assured Produce' standards
  FWAG - 'Farming & Wildlife Advisory Group' Membership - Advises on the best opportunities for environmental gains linked with commercially farmed land
  'ELS' Cross Compliance - Government coordinated environmental enhancement scheme

A range of agricultural machinery is available to hire, plus we can provide certain types of agricultural and
amenity contracting eg. grass cutting or muck heap removal from liveries.
