‘And as imagination bodies forth

The forms of things unknown, the poet's pen

Turns them to shapes and gives to airy nothing

A local habitation and a name.’

                                                        Shakespeare

My work begins with the written word: from novels, poems, plays.

I am continually amazed that writers' skilful arrangement of black

squiggles on a page can evoke such strong imagery.  The works are

hand-made original prints using traditional drypoint and card cut

techniques, inked intaglio and relief to produce line, texture and tone.

These printmaking techniques suit the illustrative nature of my work,

and forge an appropriate link between words and images. Finally,

nothing can surpass the excitement of pulling back the paper to reveal

that first print from a new plate.
