Back to family album

Lt.Gen Sir Herbert Crofton Campbell Uniacke, 1866-1934 married Minnie May "Zara" Wild (1867-1947), daughter of Thomas Wild, in 1899. His father was Lt.Col Crofton James, of Halifax, Nova Scotia. There seemed to be relatives living near the Chilcotts at Westbury-on-Trym, Gloucs eg: Crofton B Uniacke (b.1837) . This portrait of the General now hangs in a museum in Halifax. The Uniacke's Irish origins created many adventures though many of the family remained in the military or as church ministers. The General's last residence was Rivermead, Marlow, and his grave is close to that of Frank Percy Wild's

This is a picture of Herbert and Minnie, with their first son Herbert Caryl. He is the grandfather of the person who sent these photographs. Where the Wilds were into paintings, the Uniackes were photographers !

Here Minnie May and Caryl are with Thomas and Mary Wild. The photo shows Frank Percy Wild's portraits of them were good likenesses.

The General's second son, Lt.Col Richard John RA;DSO (1909-1989) who fought bravely at Dunkirk, and whose only son Michael, was educated at Eton and emigrated to Australia.

Minnie (Zara) UniackeThese two pictures were submitted by an owner who bought them from a Uniacke residence, Glanleam House of Valentia Island, Ireland, owned by Richard 1953-1975. It is now a hotel. There the Uniackes have connections with the Fitzgeralds.
