My interest in Cody's kites began when I got into into serious Kite making - and was looking for a challenge. After making the usual diamond kites and the odd box kite I set my heart on making a 'Cody' - one of the true classics in the world of kites.

I soon discovered that there were no detailed plans or instructions for the Cody kites available in English. However, with the help and assistance of Paul Chapman, and Nico van den Berg that I was able to undertake the research needed to build my first Cody.

My desire to share this new-found knowledge with other serious kite enthusiasts encouraged me to write up my experiences of making one of Cody's famous kites. Consequently I have written up what I consider the best set of plans and instructions available in English.

The book is over 70 pages with fully illustrated instructions and detailed plans to build the standard and extended wing Cody. It comes in the form of a CD with .pdf files in A4 and USA Letter size together with over 300Mb of historic and modern photographs of Codys.

Also included are ready to make paper mini Cody plans and recently added a section on the topsail. There are tips on handling and sewing ripstop. You only need moderate sewing skills - but lots of patience to build a Cody.

The drawings below demonstrate the level of detail provided in my book S.F.Cody's War Kites To the best of my knowledge these are the most complete published instructions on Cody kite making anywhere in the world - they are based on the original plans of Sam Cody's son Vivian - adapted to modern materials. Please e-mail me if you know differently! I am always interested in expanding my knowledge and to share it with others through this web site.
