The techniques will be suitable for those working by hand and or machine. During the two days you will be constructing a fabric which can then be layered with other materials and then be embellished with appliqué, stitch and beads, buttons etc.
As part of the process you will also be incorporating paint, print and or stencil and be looking at finishing techniques such as cord and tassel making.
The outcome will be personal and could be a cushion front, a book cover, a hanging or a series of samples. The workshop offers the opportunity to explore ideas at all levels and to enjoy the richness and diversity textiles can offer.

INTRODUCTION TO SLASHING
Wednesday and Thursday
12 and 13 November
2008

A two day workshop to introduce you to the basic principles of slashing or ‘chenilling’. This straight forward technique can transform remnants and dress making off cuts into fabulously rich surfaces.
At the later stages of the workshop we will look at ways of developing ideas and techniques with further stitch, appliqué or collage techniques.
The main requirements are a sewing machine that you can drive in a straightish line, a good pair of scissors and some of that fabric that you have never quite got around to using but cant bear to throw away.
