Tarnershiel, or "the house on the hill" as it is known locally, commands one of the most outstanding views in the Western Isles. The Cuillin mountains, the lighthouse at Portnalong, the great cliffs of Loch Bracadale and MacLeods' Tables can all be seen clearly without setting foot outside the house. Sunsets over the Loch are an unforgettable experience, and on a fine day you can see over the Minch to South Uist. Local walking is excellent, particularly across the causeway to Oronsay, and Ullinish could not be more centrally located for access to all corners of Skye.

The house is substantial, offering four bedrooms: two doubles and two with bunk beds. Up to eight people can be accomodated comfortably. The ground floor features a 20 ft. square family room, plus dining and kitchen area, bathroom and shower-room. All windows are double-glazed: all facilities are electric, including storage heaters, fridge, washing machine, tumble-dryer and cooking range. Linen is provided and there is a telephone and TV in the house.

Ullinish Lodge Hotel is just 300 yards away (although out of sight of the house), and Skye's main town, Portree, is a short drive away over the hills. Tarnershiel's unique location offers you the kind of holiday which will stay in the mind for years, in the midst of this beautiful island of Skye where the welcome is always warm. Ullinish is near Struan, a small village halfway between Dunvegan and Sligachan. It has the facilities of a hotel, a restaurant, a craft shop, and a garage for petrol.

Dunvegan is eight miles north of Struan with its major attraction being the castle, home of the MacLeod Chiefs for over 700 years and said to be the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland. With its garden and numerous relics it is well worth a visit, as are the frequent cruises that tour Dunvegan Loch to view the seals. Also near Dunvegan is the Coral Beach at Claigan and the award-winning restaurant "Three Chimneys".
