The Midland Air Museum at Coventry ran an Argosy Day on 19 May to mark the 50th anniversary of the first flight - it was actually on 8 January 1959. Three ARDET members attended - Ian Haldane, Dave Pritchard and David Broughton. To see a few pics of the day, CLICK HERE.

To celebrate 50 years of the Argosy (first flight was in January 1959), Brian Fare has produced a very nice A5-size greetings card featuring a pencil sketch of two aircraft, with more on the back. These can be purchased at £1 each + £1.50 postage for up to 5 cards. To order, email
Brian.
27 Jan 09 Sadly, we hear that Syd Adams - a captain on 215 Sqn, the OCU at Thorney and Wing at Benson 64-72 - died on 24 January.
We have heard the sad news from Joe Hardstaff that
Dennis Howie died in December. Alan Selby tells us that he was a captain at Benson and went on to be a staff pilot flying Varsities at Finningly.
We have also heard from Annie Thacker that
Joe Gulyes died in November. He was a co- and captain at Benson in the early '60s.
It is with great sadness that we hear that Babs Caborn passed away on 1 December after a long struggle - she spent the last two weeks at home where she died peacefully.
The
2008 REUNION took place in the Sergeants' Mess Benson on Friday 3 October. Almost 90 guys and partners turned up for an excellent evening, thanks to Geoff (and Barbara of course).
CLICK for pictures of the evening.

Congratulations to
David Barnes on becoming President of the
Royal Institute of Navigation - the learned society that is home to individuals and companies sharing an interest in all forms of navigation. With David Broughton as its Director, the navigation world has seen an Argosy takeover . .
We have heard the sad news that that Dennis (Boots) Burles - a captain on 267 Sqn around 63-65 - has died. He had retired from the RAF in 71 for BA.
Patrick Halliday has been contacted by a M/Sgt Loadmaster USAF (retd) who was with the team that brought the C-130 replacements for the Argosies. He would like to contact a former member of 215 Sqn,
F/Sgt Jack Wynyard, if possible. If you can help, please email
Patrick.

And Roger has written another book -
'Drop Zone Burma' was published on 23 October 2008. With a strap-line
'Adventures in allied air-supply 1943-45', it demonstrates the brave determination of the transport squadrons' air and ground crews and the soldiers who fought one of the longest, most remote and demanding battles of the war.
