Original autograph letter written by Colby from the Ordnance Map Office in the Tower of London 29 december 1826, to an unidentified correspondent possibly in Edinburgh, referred to as 'My dear Wallace' regarding suitable education to be given to a young man to prepare him for a position with the Survey. 'I wish him to spend his time in acquiring as much knowledge of the use and construction of instruments as he can, and any knowledge he may acquire of drawing, or increase of mathematical information, will also be a recommendation' Starting pay is referred to as four shillings per day. [Z124] Cunard Steamship Co. Deck plan 'Samaria'. 1929. Large official folding deck plan of the 20,000 ton Cunard twin-screw turbine steamer. Detailed internal layout of every cabin and public room, with one external and five internal photos. The ship was built in 1922 for the Atlantic crossing, and broken up in 1956 after a busy life including spells as a troop and refugee transport. Thin paper, slight wear on folds, outer panels lightly soiled.  £28.00
