[T205] ORDNANCE SURVEY MAP. Map of the Borough of Derby, with portions of Darley, Litchurch, and Little Chester. 1852. During the 1850s the Ordnance Survey provided manuscript 1:528 scale plans of 28 towns for their local Boards of Health on a repayment basis, but very few of these were published. In the case of Derby's 1852 plans a 1:2640 reduction was lithographed by Standidge & Co in four colour printed sheets making up a map 77" x 50" in a style which is very similar to the earliest 1:2500 plans printed by the OS themselves a few years later. The Derby plan is a very interesting precursor to the development of OS town plans and a national cadastral survey. the four sheets are here joined, dissected and cloth mounted folding to 8" x 10" in hard covers with gilt title. Some light wear throughout, a little extra detail and colour added in ink, and spine renewed.  £420.00
