Historical Research

  • Do maps give you problems
  • Can maps solve your problems?
We carry out detailed investigation in the following fields through the location and interpretation of old maps and other sources--this is only a representative selection:
  • Boundaries: position at particular dates and evidence for settling disputes
  • Rights of way: origin, status, and location of footpaths, roads, and access ways.
  • Dating: the age of buildings and subsequent extensions.
  • Site investigation: the position and extent of demolished buildings and their foundations, infilled ponds, watercourses and previous industrial activities.

We maintain large stocks of out of print maps and plans, and can locate all Ordnance Survey publications in their various editions, together with many early estate maps and surveys which may be preserved in archives remote from their area.  Originals, copies, or extracts as available can be provided for for all parts of the country when a map is needed of a particular property at a specific date.

Our forty years of experience in this field is available to Surveyors, Estate Agents, Solicitors, and Engineers concerned with the management and development of land and buildings, and to individuals who have problems or simply want to know more about the history of their property.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
