[H213] Walter, Henry. A Map of Windsor Forest and its Vicinity. 1823. An excellent
survey engraved by J. Dower on a scale of approximately 2.5 inches to the mile,
forming a large, handsome, and very detailed map 50" x 36" covering
the wyford/Windsor/ Sandhurst district of Berkshire. With field boundaries and
owner's names. This is the uncommon New Edition revised and corrected by Alfred
E. Harrison and published 1856 by J. B. Brown, Windsor, and James Wyld. Full
hand colour, mounted and dissected on cloth folding into a cloth slipcase with
gilt title and Royal coat of arms. Map in an excellent fresh state, slight

[H216] Greenwood, Christopher. [Map] County of York. Leeds/Wakefield:
Robinson, Son & Holdsworth and John Hurst & C. Greenwood, 1817. he
earliest of Christopher Greenwood's large scale county maps, covering his home
county. Conceived purely as a local venture, its success prompted him to embark
on a national coverage, abandoned in 1831 when still incomplete. Engrave by S.
I. Neele, scale 0.75" to the mile, on nine sheets. This is an early issue,
full hand colour, the sheets individually dissected and cloth mounted to fold,
together in a worn leather book-style pull off box. Lacks sheet 2, some wear
throughout with several panels soiled and annotated with grids or enhanced
boundaries. Despite its defects and the missing North Yorkshire Moors this is a
useful working set of an attractive and detailed pioneer map. £220.00
[H219] Hodgson, T. [Map] County of Westmoreland. 1828. A fine large
scale county survey engraved and printed in four sheets by W. R. Gardner, and
sold by C. Smith. At 1.25" to the mile it records a wealth of detail and
is more accurate than the rapidly produced Greenwood coverage with which it
competed. Vignette of Appleby Castle and various inset tables. Sheets 2 and 4
only, dissected and mounted together on cloth to fold, covering the whole of
the eastern half of the County. Silk edging. Some wear and a light stain. £160.00

[H274] Laurie, John. A Plan of Edinburgh and the Country adjacent. Edinburgh:
William Creech, 1786. Detailed engraved map extending to Queesferry Tranent and
Penicuick, scale about 1.4" to the mile. Size 28 x 21". First
published in 1766, this is a later issue with very few changes. Originally
mounted to fold on a cloth backing, the sections have been carefully reassembled
and laid down to archival standards on a reinforced paper backing. £220.00

Detailed county map beautifully engraved by J & C Walker including good
depiction of the expanding railway and industrial development. Scale 0.75"
to the mile, size 40" x 30". Full hand colour, dissected on cloth
folding into rubbed tooled leather covers with gilt title and remains of metal
clasp. Backing rather dampstained but map face OK except for small rustmark in title.
One of the last, and best, of the privately produced county maps. £190.00
