Old Padeswood Golf Club

Old Padeswood, a proprietary Golf Club, situated in the picturesque Alyn Valley of Flintshire, was founded in December 1977, with some 60 members, following the transfer of the present Padeswood & Buckley Golf Club to new premises and course nearby.

The Club, now boasting an all category membership of over 750, retained the land upon which the original 9 hole course was laid in 1932, when its potential as a golf course, bordered by the meandering river Alyn, was recognised by passing professional, the late Arthur Joseph, whilst eating his packed lunch at the roadside. With consultations with the then landowner he decided to settle down in the area and proceed to lay out the 9 hole meadowland golf course with the only implements available to him, a pick, shovel, rake, fork and wheelbarrow.

In 1983 when landowners were being encouraged to seek alternative outlets to farming, further land was released and another 9 holes were cleverly integrated with the existing 9 holes to form a testing 18 hole course of championship standard with a par and standard scratch rating of 72 (men) and 73 (ladies) and was officially opened in May 1985 by the Welsh International and former British Ryder Cup Captain, Brian Huggett.M.B.E. Further improvements of late have realised a new Clubhouse with excellent catering facilities, a new professional's shop and a guarantee of a very warm welcome to visitors.
