Jim Mayer is an explorer, polar traveller, audio documentary maker, lifeboat crewman and speaker.

He has skied and adventured in Spitsbergen, Greenland and Arctic Norway. Jim has clocked up several thousand miles in small inflatable boats in Svalbard and Antarctica as well as sailing off Arctic Norway and Sweden .

Working with the British Antarctic Survey, Jim was the “Antarctic Dustman”. Responsible for the waste management of an Antarctic research station in one of the world’s last remaining pristine wilderness area.

Having contributed to the Today Programme & Tails from the Back of Beyond for BBC Radio 4, Jim has made his own audio documentary.

As an RNLI Lifeboat crewman, Jim is on call whilst at home. He has been called out on numerous rescues, in all weathers, day and night.

The worlds’ oldest youth develop charity, BSES Expeditions, has been a favourite of Jim’s since 1990. He has served on numerous expeditions with BSES in roles including Deputy Chief Leader & Chief Boatman, inspiring and challenging the young people who will become the leaders of tomorrow.

Jim has recently provided live commentary for a weekend of hi-octane Viper Jet Boat racing on Cardiff Bay. He also provided commentary for the Olympic hand over ceremony event in Cardiff, broadcast live on Sky News and featured on other national networks. Venabu Fjell Hotel in Norway recently engaged Jim to give a talk on his adventures in Svalbard, which went down so well that Jim will be back again next year.

Jim is the logisitics manager for the International Scott Centenary Expedition, due to head south in 2011 on the anniversary of Scott’s expedition. www.isec2012.net
