General Information Everyone can benefit from listening to stories and many people want to learn how to tell stories - traditional, personal, or created from the imagination - and so they should, to keep the oral tradition alive for another few thousand years! All sessions described below are available as one-offs or multi-part and are individually designed to suit each booking: purpose, subject, group size, venue, style. Whether you want to book a performance for any age of audience, or a workshop, course or residency for adults - including librarians, teachers, trainee teachers and other educators - or for children, you will find a variety of possibilities suggested here. Contact me to discuss your ideas. Storytelling performances Drawing from a multi-cultural repertoire, Susie offers performance selections for festival sessions of any length, for all ages. Storytelling sessions (especially suitable for school age audiences) Listening to stories is just the beginning of the journey. Any story can be developed within a session for retelling, re-enactment with mime and/or spoken drama, creation of alternative endings, exploration with arts or crafts. Content can be themed or general. A good starter for creative writing work in class. Storytelling & Storymaking workshops Through individual and small group work, participants take their first steps in learning the craft of becoming a storyteller or improve existing storytelling skills. For creative storymaking (the first step to creative writing or any other form of recording), participants are shown several ways to open up their imaginations and create their own stories. What Stories Make Me Me? We all have unique stories to tell and to listen to. Using subject prompts, participants easily recall their earliest memories and are offered ways to collect them and pass them on. These sessions can be designed for larger, community oral history projects. Intergenerational life stories These sessions are designed to increase awareness between the generations and enable young people to hear the stories of people who are much older and vice versa. They are a valuable exercise to help young people to learn about the personal, work, social, political and cultural contributions made to society by older generations - and for older people to be encouraged by the creativity and potential of those still in the early stages of discovering life and beginning to find their sense of identity and belonging. Healing through Story Stories are full of wisdom and insight. Our imaginations can tap into this and help to bring healing at many levels. Susie leads workshops and sessions to explore this approach to healing and recovery. | ||
