MUSIC - GENERAL REGULATIONS 2008
1. All entry forms must be sent to the Entries Secretary on or before 1st February 2008 accompanied by the proper entrance fees. Please make cheques payable to Horsforth Competitive Festival of Music, Drama and Dance. No receipt will be given in respect of fees, the name of each competitor or entry shown in the programme being evidence of payment.
2. Where an age limit is specified, the age must be reckoned as on the first day of the Festival.
3. The Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry and to withdraw any class in which there are insufficient entries.
4. The order of competing in all Classes will be decided by ballot, and competitors will be informed of the approximate time of the competition. Competitors are requested to be present at least 15 minutes before the start of their class in case the adjudicator is running ahead of time.
5. Competitors must appear in numerical order, otherwise they forfeit their right to compete. Competitors are requested to let the appropriate Secretary know if they are unable to compete.
6. Competitors may bring their own accompanist. If the official accompanist is required for Own Choice classes, music must be sent with entry.
7. Own Choice music for the adjudicator may be brought on the day of the competition, and must be handed in
at the Music Secretary’s desk before the start of the class.
Please note: The Music Publisher’s Association Code of Practice on photocopying copyright works makes the following concession for copying Own Choice pieces from volume only for the use of the adjudicator at a Festival, provided that the entrant or participant has already purchased his/her own copy, and that the copy made is retained and destroyed by the Administrator of the Festival immediately after the event.
8. Professional musicians, or diploma holders of any recognised schools or colleges of Music are not eligible to compete in solo classes for which their diploma applies.
NB: A professional musician is one who earns the main part of his/her livelihood by music.
9. Absolute silence during the performance of the test piece is essential. No entrance or exit will be allowed during a performance. Communication with the adjudicator before or during the competition is prohibited.
10. No video cameras allowed.
11. The organisers and Officers of the Festival shall be under no liability whatsoever for any injury or damages sustained by any competitor or class of competitors by reason of any negligence on the part of themselves or their servants or agents, or otherwise, or by reason of any defect in any equipment or premises used for the purpose of the Festival.
12. Trophies will be presented at the end of adjudication. Trophies may not be won outright and the winners of trophies will be requested to sign a bond undertaking the return of the same to the Trophy Secretary one month prior to the next Annual Festival.
13. All enquiries regarding the Competition to be sent to the Music Secretary and a stamped addressed envelope enclosed for a reply.
14. The Executive Committee shall have the power to deal with all matters connected with the conduct of the Festival not provided for in the Regulations.
