Pamela de Waal started dancing at the age of four in Cape Town, studying all disciplines of Dance and Drama passing RAD Elementary and Intermediate with honours and winning all South African championships in Cape Town by the age of sixteen.
Came to England to complete training in Arts Educational School, Tring, passing RAD Advanced and Solo Seal by the age of seventeen. Joined the Markova-Dolin Ballet Company at its inception in London, but stayed in London to continue studying for final exams when the company went on tour. Subsequently the company became Festival Ballet and now English National Ballet Company. Having completed all major examinations, became principal dancer in summer productions, tours and pantomimes, to gain knowledge in all aspects of theatre.
Started teaching in Torbay area in 1954 and for 45 years has run a large, fully comprehensive dancing school. Pupils have reached the top West End productions, Royal Ballet soloists and principals - former pupil was Artistic Director of English National Ballet Company - and in the teaching profession all over the country. A former pupil now runs the school as the Buckingham Dance Studios, where she still teaches and choreographs for festivals.
She enjoys travel and meeting people, so loves adjudicating, which has taken her around the country, with a chance to enjoy a wide variety of children's and student's work.
