SYNOSEAL GRP Flat Roofing
Synoseal is a modified single ply GRP laminate, which is cold applied in situ, to create a joint and weld free continuous high performance covering.
A covering which can be provided in a choice of colours and which when cured is virtually maintenance fee. It can be used for domestic or commercial roofs, for balconies and walkways, for gutters and valleys, or to simulate lead or other traditional finishes. The versatility of Synoseal is demonstrated by its use in Industrial flooring applications, tanking applications and as an inert hygienic surface in food preparation areas.
GRP more commonly referred to as “glassfibre” is formed in situ by reinforcing polyester resin, which has been cured or hardened with a peroxide based catalyst with an emulsion bound chop strand mat. Once cured this forms a joint free laminate that will outlast virtually any other traditional roofing material.
Synoseal is a cold applied system that is ideally suited to both simple and complex structural designs and can be rapidly applied and cured to prevent water ingress, giving total protection.
High performance is achieved as Synoseal is made up of a combination of modified polyester base resin, emulsion bound chop strand mat and a finishing coat of pre-pigmented topcoat. When cured Synoseal is guaranteed to provide performance beyond that of more traditional bitumen or polymer based waterproofing coatings.
Bitumen based waterproofing systems have been used for almost 2000 years. Unfortunately the only thing that all bitumen based products have in common is how little time will they take to fail. With Synoseal you now have a cost effective alternative that if installed to the correct specification should easily outlast the performance of the overall roof structure. Synoseal is designed to perform.
GRP systems have been used successfully for over 20-years. They are fast becoming the preferred choice of Architects, Specifiers and Local Authorities. Only installed by highly skilled and suitably trained installers clients can be assured that Synoseal will continue to perform long after more traditional coatings have failed. Synoseal is a permanent solution.
Every Synoseal waterproofing application is formed entirely using GRP (Glass Reinforced Polyester) guaranteeing no variation in rates of thermal expansion within the laminate. Being cold applied it can be easily installed to any shape or form and to close even the most complicated detail.
Thousands of square metres of specifically modified GRP waterproofing coatings are chosen every year with confidence, by discerning customers. Synoseal is one of those systems. A system complete with a comprehensive guarantee, which can be insurance backed if required. A system that has undergone extensive testing and is installed only by trained professionals.
The flexibility of GRP allows unusual shapes to be covered with ease and the Synoseal system can successfully be adapted for application to pitched roofs and vertical walls. The smooth tough surface can withstand light foot traffic and may be upgraded at the time of application for use on balconies and verandahs using a heavier grade of glassfibre reinforcment. These areas can also be made non slip by addition of slate chipping to the top coat at the time of installation.
The Synoseal system is typically applied as a replacement for leaking traditional felt roofs. A completely new deck using either 18mm exterior grade Plywood or Sterling OSB3 conditioned boards is laid on the existing roof joists. Once the entire roof area is decked the contractor will fix all the pre-formed trim detail to the new roof. With the trims in place each joint is carefully laminated with resin and 450gm bandage to provide additional structural strength at all joints and roof details. Upon completion of the deck and trim details, the roof is laminated with Synoseal resin and 450gm glassfibre mat. The Synoseal resin is especially formulated to have low shrink and expansion characteristics to allow for temperature variations on the roof surface.
The roof is finally sealed with a further coating of Synoseal topcoat. This is pigmented to improve both the final appearance of the roof and to seal the fibres in the surface against any water ingress. The topcoat can be pigmented in several standard colours, although we recommend the standard light grey colour to diminish thermal gain. The topcoat will also stop any UV transmission into the body of the GRP layer.
